Tracing the early history of the Oromo as part of the Cushitic language speaking family of peoples, it establishes that they were neither foreigners nor newcomers to Ethiopia, but have been an integral part of the indigenous population since at least the first half of the 14th century. The massive 16th-century pastoral Oromo population movement revolutionized relations between the Christians and the Oromo. During the long process of assimilation that followed, with periods of both war and peace in central and southern Ethiopia, Oromo society was able to absorb and assimilate Cushitic and Semitic language speakers and Oromize them through the open, democratic and egalitarian Gada system; while in northern Ethiopia the Oromo themselves were absorbed into Christian Amhara society. It is produced by our friend Ture Waji at the Dambi Uddo dry station, where they only produce natural sun dried coffees. They take this specialization very seriously and it shows in the cup.

Ripe cherry is grown and picked by smallholding farmers in the surrounding area under native shade canopy, and delivered to Dambi Uddo. After the delivery is sorted and weighed, the farmer is paid a fair price and the cherry is brought immediately to raised beds to dry in the sun. These coffees are seriously some of the cleanest naturals we've ever tasted, which we attribute to excellent picking and sorting, with extremely diligent and slow drying in perfect conditions. Another tidbit we find quite interesting and indicative of Ture's attention to detail is the coffee's varietal classification. Ethiopia is Arabica coffee's ancestral birthplace and therefore contains the widest spread of genetic diversity found anywhere in the world. As such, most of the coffee grown there is one of thousands of wild landraces, much of which is unclassified. The fact that Ture has gone the extra step to classify the varieties of plants growing in the area (Gibirinna 74110 and Serto 74112 for those keeping score) is another way he and his team demonstrate their professionalism and dedication to their craft.

With this year's crop of Shoondhisa we taste a clean and sparkling cup with flavors of strawberry, lemond candy, rose water, and pomegranate.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0441/0962/7553/products/ScreenShot2020-10-23at7.34.17PM_f2491584-b258-4777-af07-9c9595a493b6.png?v=1604294402
oromo-guji-yabitu-koba-forest-instant
Instant Coffee

Each box includes six packs of Carrier Instant coffee.

Carrier coffee is shipped every Tuesday and Thursday.

We've Oda Ethiopian Specialty Instant Coffee. Little is ever shown of indigenous African democratic systems, under which there is distribution of authority and responsibility across various strata of society, and where warriors are subordinated to deliberative assemblies, customary laws are revised periodically by a national convention, and elected leaders are limited to a single eight-year terms of office and subjected to public review in the middle of their term. Here, I would like to point out some fundamental ideas of these features that are not fully developed in western democratic traditions. These are the period of testing of elected leaders, the method of distributing power across generations, and a limitation of office to single term. These are major features which make Oromo Gada system different from western democracy. One of the major contributions of Oromo democracy is the way in which power is shared by generations. The generational injustice appeared in 1960's and 1970's of Europe and United States of America were because of unfair distribution of power through generations. At that time in both continent the youth movements and movements of elder was a serious problem. However, the Oromo society had never faced with problems of such nature. Because, there is equal and just distribution of power.Finally, such kind of struggling for seniority will be settled when the principle of secularism is at work. Obama brings readers inside the Oval Office and the White House Situation Room, and to Moscow, Cairo, Beijing, and points beyond. We are privy to his thoughts as he assembles his cabinet, wrestles with a global financial crisis, takes the measure of Vladimir Putin, overcomes seemingly insurmountable odds to secure passage of the Affordable Care Act, clashes with generals about U.S. strategy in Afghanistan, tackles Wall Street reform, responds to the devastating Deepwater Horizon blowout, and authorizes Operation Neptune's Spear, which leads to the death of Osama bin Laden.

A Promised Land is extraordinarily intimate and introspective--the story of one man's bet with history, the faith of a community organizer tested on the world stage. Obama is candid about the balancing act of running for office as a Black American, bearing the expectations of a generation buoyed by messages of "hope and change," and meeting the moral challenges of high-stakes decision-making. He is frank about the forces that opposed him at home and abroad, open about how living in the White House affected his wife and daughters, and unafraid to reveal self-doubt and disappointment.
